Armstrong began composition in high school while attending music theory classes at Bellevue Community College. His professor, Dale Gleason, was a great source of encouragement towards creating high quality and memorable compositions. While at Michigan State University, David continued to develop his compositional style while studying orchestration and arrangement with Ronald Newman. Since moving to Spokane, Mr. Armstrong has continued to write and arrange music through commissions from the Spokane Symphony and the Spokane String Quartet as well as his own project to compose and arrange traditional Argentine tango for string ensembles.
